If you're seeing an error message when trying to save or send your message, it may be that your email is too large or some of the images you're using need to be resized. This article will identify the cause of these error messages and guide you through resolving them.
In some cases you will be unable to save your message until these errors are fixed.
Error Messages
Message content is too large
You will receive this error if your message size is above 100KB and you will be unable to save your message if you exceed 20MB (this excludes images in the message). In order to resolve this issue, you will need to delete content from your message, such as excess HTML, text or components.
A message of this size is exceptionally large and it may be worth splitting your content into multiple messages or using external links to more information when using large amounts of text.
Images within the message are too large
You will receive this error when an image or the combined size of images in your messages are above 10MB. You will be unable to save your message if they exceed 40MB. In order to resolve this issue you will need to resize your images to be smaller or remove some images from your message.
If you need to include very high resolution images consider hosting them externally, with a small thumbnail that includes a link to the larger resolution image or images.
There may also be instances where images don't display properly and will appear as 'code' instead of the desired image. This will also push out the filesize of your email. You can check this by looking for 'broken' (non-loading) images within your email; you will need to delete them and try inserting them again.
Large line lengths detected
If our system detects a line of code in your message that is particularly long (and could potentially cause your email to be bounced by the recipient for a 'Line Length Exceeded' error), you will see this warning on the message send page.
Mail servers treat line length differently, so the trigger for this warning is general in nature and doesn't always mean that your email will bounce.
Long line lengths commonly occur when there is a broken image, or an image has been added incorrectly during your email design process. Follow these steps to check where the issue is occurring...
- Preview your email message using the preview function provided in our platform.
- Click the public ('view online' link) provided for the message - it's shown on the preview window, just above your actual email. Your email should open in a new browser tab.
- Right click the message and select the option to view the Page Source of the message in your browser. The 'source code' of your email will be shown on screen.
- Scroll all the way to the right of the screen, then start to scroll down the page. You're looking for any lines of text that are much, much longer than the others.
- Once you locate it, scroll back to the left and look for any text or other indicators that surround the image in question. In other words, try and find something in your message that indicates where in your email the problem resides, so that you can try to locate the actual image that's causing the issue.
- Once you locate it, close the source code browser code, open your message for editing and then delete & re-add the content again. This should solve the issue but if not, please contact our support team.
