Improving deliverability and open rates by using a Double Opt-In Process Follow

Have you got a subscribe form on your website? Or maybe people might need to key in an email address on your website to receive additional information on a topic? If you have something like this in place, have you considered how incorrect data submitted through your form might hurt your marketing?

Here are a few examples of how this may effect your marketing:

  • Someone might simply make a typo when entering their email address. A simple mistake but one that can hurt your marketing stats.
  • Someone might decide to key in an incorrect email address. It is not nice but unfortunately this does happen and if that incorrect email address happens to be owned by someone, that person may submit a spam complaint which would not be very good at all.

To prevent situations such as the above from effecting your marketing, we recommend for you to set up a Double Opt-in Process so to verify the email address is indeed correct prior to sending to them.

To setup a Double Opt-in process for your subscribers, you are going to need to set up the following (click to skip ahead):

  1. The Subscribe Form and Thank you page.
  2. The Confirmation Email.
  3. The Autoresponder to send the Confirmation Email.
  4. The Welcome Email.
  5. The Autoresponder to send the Welcome Email.
  6. Testing the process.

Please see below for instructions on how to set these up!

Setting up the Subscribe Form and Thank You Page:

  1. Go to the 'Lists and Forms' menu.
  2. Select 'New List'.
  3. Select a List Type to use. In this example I am using the 'NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBERS - BASIC' form
  4. Then click 'Edit List & Create Forms'.
  5. From here you can design your Subscribe from as you desire by adding in your required fields and branding this as your own with any required colours, logos, etc.
  6. 'Save' your changes when done:

  7. Then select the 'Thank You Page' for the Subscribe Form:

  8. Please add a message onto the 'Thank You Page' to let the subscribers know a confirmation email will be sent through shortly so they can confirm their subscription.
  9. 'Save' your changes when done:

Please note: If you already have a subscribe form in use, you can continue to use this form and simply just edit the thank you page for this step!

    1. Highlight the text you wish linked.

    6. Set 'Form Style' as 'Default Style' or select the specific subscribe form in this list if you have created one specific for this.
    7. Give your link a name so it is easily identified in your reports.
    8. Click 'open in a new window'.
    9. Then click 'Insert Link'.
  7. When finished 'Save' your message:

Please note: There are plan text Autoresponders and Autoresponder templates built into every account by default, if you do not want to design your own message for this you are welcome to use one of these options as per my example above.
